Dear Parents, Redacted

In the ongoing project ‘Not My Child, Not Your Child’, my work considers the subject of war and the sorrow inflicted on mothers of soldiers on both sides of the conflict. Born in response to the military recruiting materials sent to my teenage sons, I began scanning, deconstructing, manipulating, and reconstructing these pamphlets and letters to develop imagery that alters their original message. The ‘Dear Parents, Redacted’ series of prints evolved to combine the figure – a young woman’s arm, a young man’s back or hands – with layered censored text.
